Hot Tip on How To Curb Impulse Buying

Ever since I got into fashion, I’ve been disastrous at impulse buying. When I saw a good sale, I bought it. If it was love at first sight, I had to have it right then and there. If you’ve lived life at all, you know that impulse decisions can be great, but often end up being some of our worst.

I’ve implemented this new strategy on how to curb impulse buying for about a year now. I still have bought some items on a whim, but I have bought way less than I normally would. Keep reading for this hot tip.

Ok, this is going to sound counterintuitive, but hear me out. Go to your favorite brands and look through their whole website. I mean all of it. Not just their new arrivals, and not just their sale. When you go through it, favorite the items you love. Not the ones you like, but the ones you would actually consider buying.

Once you go through the whole website and favorite all of the items you love, step away from online browsing for a week or two. I like to go through my wishlist after I’ve had some time away. For some items, the honeymoon phase left as quickly as it came. I realized I didn’t actually love the item that much - or at least not enough to purchase it. This is the time to unfavorite and weed out the “no’s” from your wishlist.

Keep checking your wishlist from time to time. If a sale comes up, shop from your wishlist. You already went through the whole website, so if you’re interested in a sale item that’s not on your wishlist, then you know it’s because it’s on sale - not because you actually love it.

So far, this strategy has worked for me! I especially do this at Anthropologie. Regular priced items are out of my budget, so I like to shop their sale section when they have an additional discount. I check in on my wishlist to see what’s gone on sale, and delete the things that no longer catch my eye.

Strategizing like this is especially helpful so you don’t end up buying clothes you don’t like and wasting money you could have spent on something you actually love!
