How to Always Look Put Together with 3 Simple Tricks

I know I am not the only one who has woken up too late, just can’t decide what to wear, or is having a horrid hair day. Often in times of rushing, I find myself feeling frazzled and a bit crazy throughout the day, and I know it probably shows.

And sometimes, I’m not in a hurry - I’m just simply don’t know what to wear. I’ve come up with a few simple tricks to always look put together - even when I definitely don’t feel like it.

Tip #1 - Tuck Your Shirt in

No one has ever looked at someone with a tucked shirt and thought “well they look sloppy.” Whether you tuck your shirt in all the way, or do a French tuck (tucking a few inches in on the front or side), this little trick instantly creates a waistline. It is visually appealing, and especially great if you have wider hips (like me) so your shirt isn’t cutting you off at the hips. I actually do this with almost all of my shirts and sweaters! It’s one of my signature styles.

Tip #2 - Wear 3 Accessories

My first retail job was at a little boutique called Francesca’s. Everyday when we started our shift, we had to pick out 3 pieces of jewelry to wear (not the most sanitary, but oh well?). I’ve carried that with me ever since - whether it’s jewelry, handbags, a scarf, you name it! Accessories add flare to an outfit and is a great way to add layers! And we all know layering helps make an outfit look more intentional.

BONUS TIP: if you’re engaged or married, you already have a head start on the game! I count my wedding ring as one of my accessories. Add a necklace and a watch and you’re golden.

Tip #3 - Grab those Heels

I know this tip might be unpopualr, but heels make everything look like it was on purpose. Woke up late for brunch and grabbed the nearest tshirt and jeans? Add some heels and your look is now “casual chic.” Even if you’re dressing up for the office, heels add a layer of sophistication (and height) to your outfit. It is NEVER a wrong choice to wear heels.

If you’re not a fan of heels, I recommend wearing block heels. It creates a bit of a platform so it’s much easier to walk in than if you had skinny heels. Small heels are also a great option. An inch, or even half an inch, is super easy to walk in, but looks more elevated than a sandal.

BONUS Tip #4 - Pull your Hair Back

I love wearing my hair down, but sometimes it’s flat, or just looks a bit too casual like I’m going to the beach. Pulling it back in a low bun, or half up in a clip will add some volume around your face, and can look real classy.

And if you’re just having the worst hairday, try curling or straightening your top layer before pulling it back in a bun. That way, it will give your top layer (the only layer visible) some shine and sleekness.
