Getaway - A Romantic Weekend Near Chicago

If you’ve been looking for a cozy escape near Chicago, look no further. Jason and I stayed at a Getway cabin in Starved Rock for his birthday weekend and had the best time! I highly recommend it if you need a weekend away from the city, or just want a nice, romantic getaway. Keep reading for my full review of Getaway Starved Rock.

Jason’s birthday is the first week of February, so I wanted to give him a fun cabin outside of Chicago. We both love the city, but it’s nice to get out sometimes and breathe fresh tree air - if you live in a city you know what I mean.

I’ve seen Getaway on Instagram before and was drawn in by the coziness of the cabins and the huge window by the beds. I saw that they recently opened a new location near Starved Rock, about 1 ½ hours from Chicago so I basically had no choice but to book it. We went from a Sunday to Monday, which was perfect. We had time to get our stuff together after church before checking in, and we only had to take 1 day off from work on Monday. We also got a weekday price, which was more than half the price of the weekend rate, so it was a big win all around.

The Getaway cabins were super easy to find and pretty private. Each cabin is separated from the neighboring cabins by trees, so it felt secluded. The cabin property is pretty small, but there was still room for a firepit and 2 chairs. We’re not big fire people, so we stuck to the cabin.

The cabin itself was beautiful. There was a small table and chairs, a kitchen with utensils and supplies, a cute bathroom with a shower and toiletries, and a nice big queen bed right by a wall-sized window looking out into the woods. It was gorgeous and super romantic. Sleeping next to the window under the stars was such a cool experience. This is a great alternative to camping - especially if you want the benefits with actual comfort (hello, me).

Jason and I took a walk, drove into Ottawa for some dinner, and relaxed in the cabin and played some music from their speakers and just chilled. The cabins have a lot of kitchen supplies, as well as a complimentary smores kit and a fire starter kit for a small fee.

The next day we headed out and went to Starved Rock and hiked the St. Louis Canyon trail. It was pretty easy (especially for us non-hikers) and we got to see a massive frozen waterfall. It was pretty cool to say the least. The temps were in the 30s/40s so the ice was just starting to melt, so I only fell down about 3 times during our hike. Did I mention I’m a city person?

Jason and I had such a great time that we’re planning on coming back in the fall. Getaway was such a great escape from the city, and super cozy. The communication with staff was efficient and easy, and I highly recommend them!
