Hotel Allegro: A Chicago Spring Staycation
I recently had the incredible opportunity to stay at Hotel Allegro in downtown Chicago! A Chicago spring staycation was just what me and my little family needed - a huge thank you to Hotel Allegro for hosting us!
The list of why Hotel Allegro makes for a great Chicago spring staycation is incredibly long, but I'll try to make it short. First, as a person who is very into aesthetics and creativity, this hotel has it all. I mean all. Gorgeous artwork in the lobby, a clear and well executed art deco vibe, gorgeous light fixtures in every room, and furniture that is both stunning and comfortable.
The lobby of this hotel throws you back into a different era with the round art deco couch, cozy carpeting, and gilded banisters. I also loved the chandelier in the lobby - it is breathtaking! Not only is the lobby filled with incredible fixtures, but our room also had lovely lighting.
I also love the open floor plan and the floor to ceiling windows. It felt like we were walking into something so grand, yet warm and inviting. I think the fireplace and the texture of the furniture played a big role in that.
If you’re looking for a more secluded atmosphere, you don’t have to go far. There’s quiet seating behind the grand staircase, and also an enclosed but accessible lounge behind the fireplace.
If you’re planning on spending time in the lobby (which you should) make sure to grab some popcorn from their customized cart, or a drink from their lobby bar, Bar Allegro! They have great options to choose from, and the staff is incredibly kind! I got the Esther’s Ether. Also, isn’t flash photography so fun?!
Onto our room - we were given a beautiful king suite with a beautiful view of the L. As someone who’s lived in Chicago for 10+ years and commuted with the train for 8, it has a special place in my heart - plus it’s just a vibe!
Our suite had a big living room complete with a couch, 2 armchairs, and a table with 4 chairs. We also had a bathroom with a gigantic tub with jets (Jason had to try it out at midnight). Our bedroom had 3 windows, a closet with the most comfy (and somehow flattering) robes, and some more furniture and a TV. Talk about a great space for a Chicago spring staycation!
In the evening we went to their restaurant, 312 Chicago. You can get there through the hotel through a connecting hallway (you have to take stairs), or you can leave the hotel and walk down the block.
312 Chicago is a fine dining Italian restaurant. I’m surprised I’ve never heard of it before because it was so delicious! Jason ordered the steak and potatoes, and I ordered the gnocchi. Both were so good! So good in fact that I actually ate all of the leftovers (they usually just sit in the fridge, oops!).
Based on the recommendation of our amazing server, we also got the Zeppole e Marinara, which was like a crispy, savory beignet dipped in marinara sauce. It was so great! I could have eaten the whole basket, but saved room for dinner. Jason and I shared their grapefruit cocktail of the week, which was also a hit. 312 Chicago did not disappoint! Plus everyone was complimenting our baby - who doesn’t love that?!
In the morning, I went down to the lobby for complimentary coffee and tea. It was pretty good as far as hotel coffee goes! They even had alternative milk and honey for sweetener (my go-to).
Here are some other fun photos we took during our stay!
