9 Trendy Fall Items to Try in 2023

Let’s talk about trends. When I think of the word, I think Project Runway - “one day you’re in, and the next day you’re out.” Really, that describes fads. Fads are often seasonal, making an appearance for a few months to a year, and then disappearing for another 20 years. Trends have a much longer shelf life. Think skinny jeans. Those suckers were here in the early 2010s and lasted until the 2020s. That’s a whole 10 years! So trends aren’t always bad or short lived. Certainly they’re not always for everyone, but it’s fun to pick a few and try them out! Here are 9 trendy fall items to try this year.

Knits & Crochet

Say hello to this comfy trend and embrace your cozy knits! With the infamous lockdown of 2020, people got realll comfortable being at home. And the comfort isn’t stopping any time soon. Try a knit dress, cardigan, or sweater. It’s a great way to transition from summer to fall!

Pantsuits

Personally, I’m dying to try suiting - especially the matching ones, which are hot hot hot. The great thing about suiting is that you can style it different ways! You can button the blazer and wear a sexy tank, leave it open with a graphic tee, or mismatch the set and wear the blazer with jeans. If you’re looking for trendy fall items that you can personalize, this is a great place to start.

Leather

Leather is my favorite trendy fall item of all time. It’s incredibly chic, and classes up any outfit. Leather has never been “out,” but right now it’s everywhere. Leather blazers, leather pants, leather bags, leather dresses. Embrace it!

Oversized Outerwear

The oversized trend is here to stay another year. Grab an oversized blazer or denim jacket and cape it over a bulky sweater. The oversized look can seem a bit sloppy, but if you do it right, it’s chic and adds a great layering look. And if you’ve ever envied your husband’s closet, this is a great time to borrow his blazers!

HOT TIP: balance an oversized piece with a fitted piece. If you have baggy jeans, wear a fitted top. If you’re wearing an oversized blazer, try a fitted skirt or fitted pants.

Loose Legged Denim

When it comes to denim, trends stay for a while. Jeans have now transitioned from skinny, to loose, so invest in a pair because it’ll be on trend for the next 10 years! And there’s a lot of wiggle room with this one - straight leg, mom jeans, baggy, 90s, etc. The great thing is that you actually have options with this trend.

Bold Colors

Everyone who loves bold colors, rejoice! Neutrals will always be a classic option, but bold colors are moving into the top slot for trendy fall apparel. Bold colors are being worn as monochromatic looks, which compliment the matching set and pantsuit trends. If you really want to be top level, red is “the color” for fall 2023 (although who really knows if Barbie pink will stop at the end of summer).

Sleek knee high boots

We all love a good boot for colder weather. This year, a sleek knee high boot is trending. Think leather and sleek, and not slouchy and soft. Wear them with a midi dress or a skirt, and they’ll be especially trendy!

Metallics

Metallics are a new trend this year, inspired by the 80s. I personally have not tried this yet, but there are options out there that are great! Even the subtlety of a metallic tshirt fits into this trend. If you don’t want to go all out on this one, you can exchange the word “metallic” for “shimmer.”

Tonal Dressing

While bold colors are trending, tonal dressing - including neutrals - is still very in. It’s basically monochromatic, except you don’t have to try to wear the same exact color from head to toe. If you’re wearing brown, you can wear a cream top, chocolate pants, and a nice camel colored trench. It’s more about the color family than the exact shade.

I hope this list of trendy fall items helps you with your fall shopping list! And remember, you can style them your own way to fit your personal style.
