How To Style Sheer in a Classy Way
Sheer everything is very on trend this year. Honestly, sheer isn’t new (but what is in the fashion world?). It wasn’t always the rage or the hot thing at the moment, but it never went away, either. Right now, it’s stepping back into the spotlight where it belongs.
Sheer is a great way to remedy a fashion rut. It’s so chic and instantly elevates an outfit. However, it can be hard to wear sheer without showing off the goods. It can easily go from trendy, to trashy. So here’s some inspiration and tips on how to style sheer in a classy way.
Sheer Mesh
Sheer mesh is about as sheer as they come. In this case, wear a bralette top or bandeau bra underneath for coverage. For super sheer, I would wear long sleeves and a medium length skirt or full pants to even out the proportions of exposed skin. You can also layer a mesh top underneath a dress.

Patterns & Embroidery
Embroidery, patterns, and graphic prints are bold and the main attention grabbers in a piece. Wearing a sheer top or dress with embellishments is a great way to add some class to a sheer garment as it takes some attention away from the stark translucence.

Layer Up
You don’t have to wear undergarments only when sporting a sheer look. Wear a black slip dress under a sheer dress. Put a layering tank under a sheer blouse. This is a fool proof method on styling sheer in a classy way. You can also layer it over a pre-existing outfit for some added drama, or layer a sheer top under a blazer or jacket.

Sheer Sleeves
If you’re looking for a safe way to try out the sheer style, try a top or dress with sheer sleeves. You get to wear sheer without showing off any of the goods.

Sheer Skirts
Wearing skirts with an extended transparent layer is a clever way to get in on this trend. It’s also very chic, adding more dimension to your outfit. This is a great way to incorporate some sheer into your wardrobe.

Crochet Styles
Crochet is all the rage right now, so it’s kind of a double trend when it’s sheer. Knit looks can easily turn beachy depending on how it’s styled, so I would opt for skin tone layers underneath, or colors that match the crochet piece.

Organza & Shimmer
Organza is a structured fabric with a delicate tone. It looks expensive and automatically elevates an outfit. It’s a classy way to wear sheer, especially if you’re wanting to wear a bralette underneath.

Sheer Duster
Lastly, a great way to add a sheer layer is to throw on a transparent duster. You can easily add it to a simple top and jeans, or a dress of a shorter length. Obviously a sheer duster isn’t practical (there’s no way it would keep you warm), but purely a fashion statement.
