Shot of Art: Unique Chicago Experience

Big cities are full of unique and instagrammable experiences, but it can be hard to tell which ones are actually fun, and which ones are really just gimmicks - like it looks good on your instagram but in reality it was really just a photo-op. I recently had the opportunity to create some art at Shot of Art, and I honestly thought it was so much fun! Not only was it such a fun experience, but the art itself actually turned out really well! If you’re looking for a unique Chicago experience, keep reading.

Shot of Art generously gifted me an art experience to try out, so I took a friend and we headed there after work. They have multiple interactive art experiences to choose from, and we decided on the “shooting + spinning” experience. Basically, you fill some balloons with paint, hang them from a chain, and place a canvas underneath. Then, you shoot the balloons with a bb-gun, and the paint falls onto the canvas. After all the balloons are shot, they spin the canvas and the paint spreads out.

Once we were checked in in their super fun lobby, we picked out our canvas. If you’re doing this with a friend, I recommend picking the 2 smaller canvases - they lay them side by side during the experience, and then afterwards you can both take one home!

After we picked our canvases, we picked out our paint. My friend, Katt, works in the creative department, so she definitely helped with the color scheme. She ended up picking a hot pink paint to tie everything together. At first I was like… wait what? Lol BUT you can make your own colors once you’re in your art room, and she made a gorgeous light salmon color by adding yellow and white. It turned out great and tied the whole piece together perfectly! (This is why you just have to trust the process.)

Once we had everything picked out, we went back to our room. The walls were splattered with paint and art designs. It was such a fun room! We had an employee help us fill up the paint balloons and gave us great tips on shooting. We had SO MUCH fun!

My favorite part was definitely shooting the balloons. It reminded me of Princess Diaries when Mia and her mom shot paint filled balloons with darts. My inner child was so happy! I also had a *friendly* competition with my friend to see who could hit the balloons with the least amount of shots. I did win, however we both did a great job!

If you’re looking for a unique art experience that’s not only fun, but will actually produce art you’ll want to keep, I highly recommend Shot of Art! The staff was so friendly and fun, the art turned out amazing, and the experience itself was so enjoyable. I would definitely come back and do this experience again, or even try their different ones!

Thank you, Shot of Art, for this gifted experience!
