How To Wear Trending Faux Leather

Leather has always been a staple in the fashion world, but a new type of leather is stealing the spotlight - faux leather. If you’re like me, you are thankful that this trend is much more cost effective than genuine leather, which makes it more attainable for the masses, which is me. I am the masses.

As I’ve said before, someone can be wearing “trendy” items but not actually be stylish. There’s a huge difference between style and just slapping designer items on yourself. For example, have you seen Selling Sunset? I love that show, and all of the realtors are decked out head to tow in designer. In my personal opinion, most of them are in need of a major fashion makeover. You can have money and not have style. And the opposite is true, too - you can have a small amount of money and have style. Keep reading below for examples on how to wear faux leather this season.

Pants

Faux leather pants are so cute - but they can be intimidating! I say just go for it. Try a monochromatic look and keep it all one color. It can be orange like above, or if you have black leather pants you can wear a black top with it. Monochrome is a safe - yet extremely chic - way to start out with leather pants. If you wear a form fitting top, tuck it in. If you’re wearing a tighter pant (like the spanx leggings) then I suggest wearing a crop top with oversized outerwear, or top it off with an oversized cozy sweater.

Moto Jackets

I absolutely love how edgy moto jackets are. In high school I saw them all over Pinterest and longed for one. 10+ years later and they’re back on full trend. Mine is from Avec Les Filles (French for “with the girls”) and it feels like BUTTER. I styled it with baggy jeans and a fitted top. You could also style one draped over a sundress in the spring, or a flowy maxi dress.

Trenches

Ok so maybe I’m obsessed with Avec Les Filles because this faux leather trench coat is also from them. BUT for good reason! I’m in love. A long, faux leather trench coat might sound like the matrix, but paired with some good denim, it’s so chic. You could also wear this with an abovc-the-knee dress, or a fitted midi dress.

Skirts

Have leather skirts ever really gone out of style? Yeah, I didn’t think so. So you can’t go wrong investing in a good faux leather mini skirt. I got mine from Loft and I love it. Like I said with the pants, you can go for a monochromatic look with this and be set.

Boots

Another staple of the faux leather world is footwear, particularly boots and booties. I have butterscotch booties in faux leather from Franco Sarto and I wear them all the time. I love them, and I feel so chic whenever my shoes are faux leather. It elevates any outfit. Pair with any kind of denim, or a mini skirt or sweater dress and you’re golden.

Be sure to let me know if you incorporate any of these faux leather pieces into your closet!
